Cyprus President's Official Visit to Kyiv
On December 4, President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus arrived in Ukraine, according to the official government website of Cyprus.
The statement reads: “The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, is visiting Ukraine as part of his official visit.”
The website features several photos, including one showing the Cypriot president disembarking from a train.
As reported by Kathimerini Cyprus, Christodoulides arrived in Kyiv at 8 AM, where he was welcomed by Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevhen Perebijnis and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Cyprus, Serhiy Nizhynskyi.
According to Cyprus Mail, the president's visit occurs amid preparations for Cyprus's presidency in the European Council. He is accompanied by government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, Director of the Presidential Diplomatic Office Doros Venesis, and other officials.
During his stay in Kyiv, the Cypriot president will meet with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky. It is expected that he will reaffirm Cyprus's commitment to international law and respect for Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
The leaders are anticipated to discuss Ukraine's EU accession process and the priorities of Cyprus's upcoming EU presidency, as well as the implementation and effectiveness of international sanctions.
It is reported that Christodoulides and Zelensky will lay a wreath at the Wall of Remembrance for fallen defenders of Ukraine in the Russo-Ukrainian War. Following this, a closed meeting and expanded negotiations will take place at the presidential palace regarding EU-Ukraine relations. The visit will conclude with a working lunch.
As part of his visit, Christodoulides will also meet with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk.
The President of Cyprus will visit a rehabilitation center for children who returned after being abducted from Ukraine and the Saint Sophia Cathedral.
Christodoulides will return to Cyprus on Friday, December 5.
