Germany to Supply Ukraine with Additional Air Defense Systems
On Friday, Germany declared that it would provide Ukraine with two Patriot air defense systems. This comes after an agreement with the United States, allowing Berlin to be prioritized for new systems instead of those being transferred.
This was confirmed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, as reported by Reuters.
He emphasized that due to the commitments from the US, "Germany can first send launchers to Ukraine and then additional components of the Patriot system".
The Bundeswehr plans to deliver additional Patriot launchers to Ukraine in the coming days, with other system components expected to follow in two to three months.
In exchange, Germany will receive new Patriot systems from the US at an accelerated pace.
It is worth noting that on July 14, US President Donald Trump stated during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Rutte in Washington that the US would not provide weapons to Ukraine for free; instead, European countries and Canada would be responsible for the payments.
The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, in an interview with "EuroPravda", noted that the number of Patriot air defense systems Ukraine expects to receive through German support is subject to change.
"Initially, we reached out to the Germans asking them to purchase two systems for us from the United States. After the meeting in Ramstein, it became public that partners were looking for five systems. However, in reality, we need ten or more", – he stated.
