Reassessing U.S. Support for Ukraine

In the White House and Congress, serious discussions about further aid to Ukraine are virtually nonexistent, despite the expiration of the previous assistance package approved during Joe Biden's presidency.

Supporters of Ukraine in Congress state that even though the current military and financial aid, passed during Biden's last months in office, is nearing its end, there are no serious discussions regarding a new assistance package.

Quote: "European officials say they have not received any assurances that the United States will continue to provide Ukraine with crucial intelligence needed to strike Russian forces and infrastructure".

It is also noted that when the White House refers to its relationship with Ukraine, it tends to focus more on what it receives rather than what it plans to give.

Following recent events in the Oval Office, the U.S. and Ukraine are reassessing the agreement concerning American investments and access to Ukrainian resources.

One example mentioned is an agreement for access to Ukraine's strategic natural resources, which is currently under active consideration. It took nearly six weeks to rewrite a document that had not been signed previously.

Quote: "The deal that Trump truly desires is one with Russia. However, to achieve that, Ukraine needs to be bypassed, either by announcing a ceasefire or simply setting the issue aside".

Background:

• The U.S. has presented its proposals to European allies regarding a possible "peace deal" between Russia and Ukraine, which would include easing sanctions against Russia in the event of a prolonged ceasefire.
• Earlier on Friday, April 18, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump would abandon efforts to negotiate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine if there were no clear signs that it was feasible.
