Release of critically ill defenders: another stage of prisoner exchange
As part of a new agreement reached in Istanbul, another prisoner exchange involving critically ill soldiers has taken place.
Today marked a significant event - the exchange of prisoners of war, particularly those who are critically ill and injured, in accordance with international agreements. Under the direction of the President of Ukraine, the Coordinating Headquarters has freed a group of defenders with serious health issues.
Among those released are servicemen from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including representatives from the Navy, Air Assault Forces, Territorial Defense Forces, as well as border guards and the National Guard.
Each freed individual has severe medical diagnoses resulting from injuries and conditions during captivity. Many are suffering from significant weight loss, dystrophy, ulcers, vision problems, and serious musculoskeletal disorders.
The majority of those released had been in captivity for over three years, many of them captured during the defense of Mariupol.
All released individuals are from the rank and file and sergeant ranks.
Ukrainians returning home fought in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, as well as in Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv regions.
The freed defenders will undergo comprehensive medical examinations, receive assistance with physical and psychological rehabilitation, and all due payments for the time spent in captivity.
The Coordinating Headquarters continues its work and is already preparing for the next stage of prisoner exchange.
