Critical Negotiations for Peace in Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has emphasized that this week is "crucial" for peace negotiations, and based on the outcomes, the U.S. will decide on its next steps.

He shared this during an interview with NBC News.

Rubio believes that Ukraine and Russia are currently "closer to reaching an agreement than ever before".

"I think this week will be decisive. We need to determine whether to continue this initiative or focus on other important issues," Rubio stated.

The Secretary also reiterated that the U.S. has already shown Russia and Ukraine the "path to ending the conflict".

"Both sides simply need to agree on this. We have shown them a way forward. We discussed these ideas... We have pointed them towards the finish line," he added.

Previously, on April 18, Rubio stated that the U.S. expects positive developments in the peace talks within the coming days.

Otherwise, he noted, President Donald Trump would be informed that the negotiations no longer make sense. On the same day, Trump confirmed that the U.S. would exit the peace talks if either side "complicates" the process significantly.

Rubio did not attend London meetings: details

The U.S. Secretary of State missed scheduled talks on April 23 in London aimed at finding ways to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.

On April 23, a quadrilateral meeting took place in London involving representatives from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the U.S., and France.

The American delegation was supposed to include Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoys of the U.S. President, Steve Witkoff and Keith Kellogg.

The American delegation was to meet with the foreign ministers and national security advisors of France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine.
