Municipal Forum: Resilience and Support
During the forums held in Kyiv, representatives from international organizations and local communities gathered to discuss the importance of local governance in times of war.
The event commenced with a tribute to the heroes who gave their lives for the independence of Ukraine and Europe. Over two days, participants will address numerous challenges facing Ukrainian communities.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko emphasized that on December 7, the entire country celebrated Local Government Day, initiated by the Association of Cities of Ukraine back in 2000.
He also announced that three new communities have joined the Association, bringing the total to 1,080, which encompasses 95% of the population.
The annual forum serves as a platform for discussing pressing issues that require collective solutions.
Klitschko highlighted the importance of local governance for democracy in Ukraine, noting that strong communities are the foundation of stability and development.
He also pointed out the adoption of a new law that aligns with European standards, enabling Ukraine to receive additional financial support from European partners.
Key tasks of the forum include discussing municipal funding and creating favorable conditions for business development in communities.
"We must do our utmost to support our defenders, and we are doing everything possible to assist them and their families. Together, we can achieve success!" — stated Klitschko.
