Exhibition 'Call sign: Artist': Humanity and Courage Amidst War
On October 1st, in honor of the Defenders of Ukraine Day, the exhibition titled 'Call sign: Artist' will take place at the Museum of History of Kyiv.
This exhibition represents a profound dialogue between the realities of war and culture, focusing on the experiences of those who witnessed these events. During the full-scale invasion, Kyiv artists rushed to the frontlines, aiming to convey their emotions through their works.
The exhibition features works from seven talented artists who are members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, including Serhiy Herasymenko, Vasyl Telychko-Evert, Artem Shevchenko, Volodymyr Huryn, Volodymyr Vakulenko, Mykola Medynskyi, and Vasyl Semko.
Each piece on display is a testament to life, captured on materials that have survived combat, such as wooden boards and charred fragments.
“It is symbolic that this exhibition takes place here, in the historical museum of Kyiv, as art created in the heat of battle becomes an important part of our history,” notes the museum director, Victoria Mukha.
'Call sign: Artist' is a space where art not only reflects reality but also shapes it. The exhibition demonstrates how creativity can be therapeutic, documentary, and even sacred, transforming personal experiences into symbols of hope and victory.
“This exhibition shows that even in the most challenging times, we can continue to create and find meaning. Art can be a powerful tool that fights for our memory and victory,” emphasizes Hanna Yarova, the project's co-organizer.
The exhibition will be open for viewing until October 12th according to the museum's schedule: Wednesday-Sunday — from 12:00 to 19:00, Monday, Tuesday — closed.
