Obolon Island Receives Prestigious International Award

The Green Flag has been raised on Obolon Island in Kyiv, marking the first such recognition in Ukraine. This international environmental award indicates that the recreational area meets high standards of ecology, safety, and accessibility. Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko announced this on his Telegram channel.
“The Green Flag is a prestigious international award received by our island. It confirms that this beloved recreational spot for Kyiv residents complies with high international standards,” he noted.
Klitschko explained that this award was established in 1996 and sets quality standards for parks and natural areas.
According to him, the accreditation is managed by the organization Keep Britain Tidy under a license from the UK government.
The mayor added that the online evaluation took place at the end of July with the participation of international judges, ensuring a transparent process.
The event was organized by the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation of the Kyiv City State Administration along with the municipal enterprise “Pliso”.
The decision to award the Green Flag to the island was made based on a thorough analysis of the provided information.
“This award makes Obolon Island even more attractive for visitors,” emphasized Klitschko.
Last year, Kyiv completed the construction of a pedestrian wave bridge to the island, which connects the “Natalka” park and the waterfront.
