Academic Degrees Revoked Due to Plagiarism
Four researchers in Ukraine have had their academic degrees revoked due to identified plagiarism in their dissertations.
This was reported in the decision of the Attestation Board of the Ministry of Education and Science, which convened on April 25, as noted by the ministry itself.
This body makes the final decision on the assignment or revocation of academic degrees and titles based on the conclusions of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance.
The affected scholars include:
Oleg Mischenko, who lost his degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences in the specialty of "Economics and Management of National Economy".
According to the blog "Plagiarism and Falsifications", plagiarism was found in his dissertation titled "Activation of Innovative and Investment Development of the Food Industry in Ukraine", which showed significant overlaps with a 2015 monograph by Victoria Hubina.
Mykola Kolyadynskyi, who was stripped of his degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in the specialty of "Environmental Safety".
His dissertation titled "Management of Environmental Safety of Soils and Groundwater in the Influence Zone of Landfills", which contained plagiarism, was defended in 2013.
Andrii Zabolotnyi, who had his degree of Candidate of Sciences in Public Administration in the specialty of "Theory and History of Public Administration" revoked.
His dissertation on the topic "Legal Regulation of Professional Activity in the Field of Public Service: Public Management Aspect" was defended in 2021.
Roxana Chupryna was deprived of her degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences in the specialty of "Obstetrics and Gynecology".
Her dissertation on the prevention of menopausal disorders in women with benign unspecified tumors of the uterus and ovaries was defended in 2015.
"All decisions of the Attestation Board of the Ministry were made unanimously, indicating consensus and shared understanding," noted Deputy Minister of Education Denys Kurbatov.
Recall that we previously reported that no researcher in Ukraine was stripped of an academic degree due to plagiarism suspicions throughout 2024.
