New Travel Initiative: 3000 km Across Ukraine for Free
In just three weeks since the launch of the «3000 km Across Ukraine» program, thousands of Ukrainians have taken advantage of this opportunity, purchasing 40,000 train tickets as part of this initiative. This is equivalent to transporting approximately 740 economy or 1,111 sleeper cars.
Among more than 20 available routes, the most popular include:
- Fastiv — Konotop
- Odesa — Zaporizhzhia
- Kyiv / Zhmerinka — Shostka
- Zaporizhzhia — Lviv
- Sumy — Rakhiv
The «3000 km Across Ukraine» program is part of the state initiative «Winter Support». The first trains under this program were launched on December 5. Initially, the focus is on routes to and from frontline communities.
According to Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine's Recovery Oleksii Kuleba, support is planned to be expanded nationwide in the future.
“During off-peak seasons, Ukrzaliznytsia will be able to offer about 250,000 seats per month. This creates opportunities for Ukrainians to travel affordably, while also helping to ease peak transportation loads,” the Minister emphasized.
Free travel within the 3000 km initiative is available during off-peak periods and mainly focuses on routes leading to frontline communities. Tickets can be purchased through the Ukrzaliznytsia application.
The program aims to support residents of communities located near the front line and also allows for a more even distribution of passenger flow and more efficient use of available railway resources. The routes for the pilot launch were determined based on train occupancy analysis with a special focus on the needs of frontline regions. The implementation of the program occurs without additional costs to the state budget.
