Innovative Traffic Light Experiment Begins in Kyiv

Starting November 11th, an experiment with a new type of traffic signal known as the "Greek cross" will commence at the intersection of Volodymyrska Street and Taras Shevchenko Boulevard in Kyiv. This was announced by the Center for Traffic Organization.
The experiment is part of the Road Safety Week initiative and aims to enhance safety during left turns. As stated by the center, this is the first such solution in Ukraine, inspired by practices in European countries.
An additional section will be added to the traffic light, featuring a red signal in the shape of an equilateral cross ("plus"). When this signal is illuminated, it indicates that oncoming traffic is halted, allowing drivers to safely make a left turn.
Therefore, the "Greek cross" traffic light section does not prohibit passage; rather, it confirms the possibility of maneuvering since the opposing flow of traffic is stopped at that moment.
The experiment will last for two months, during which specialists will collect and analyze data regarding the effectiveness of the new system.
