French Fishermen Aid Ukraine with Fishing Nets
Fishermen from the French region of Brittany have sent approximately 280 km of fishing nets to Ukraine, which are now used as barriers to protect against Russian drones. This was reported by the State Agency for the Development of Land Reclamation, Fisheries, and Food Programs.
It is noted that these old fishing nets, which were previously slated for disposal, have found new purposes, especially in frontline cities and along the front line. The material of the nets can withstand significant loads.
This initiative was organized by the charity Kernic Solidarités, which was implemented following requests from Ukrainians in France. The organization's president, Gérard Le Du, pointed out that the fishing community responded quickly to the call for assistance.
“When we learned that Ukraine needed nets, the fishing community reacted swiftly. We have plenty of fishing nets in our region. The problem is that we don’t know what to do with them, as several companies that processed them have closed down. If they are needed by Ukrainians to create drone barriers and save lives – they can take them,” said the organization’s president.
Initially, the nets were used to protect medical camps near the frontline, and now they are being utilized on roads, bridges, and at hospital entrances.
The agency expressed gratitude to the French fishermen for their support of Ukraine and called on concerned citizens to join similar initiatives.
