Power Restoration at Zaporizhzhia NPP
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has restored its backup power supply for the first time in six months after completing repairs on its second transmission line. According to a report from the IAEA press service, connecting the Ferrosplavna-1 line to the NPP is a significant step in preventing a nuclear disaster.
"Since the damaged sections of the line were in an active combat zone, it required complex negotiations with both parties to establish carefully coordinated temporary ceasefire agreements, allowing technicians to work without risking their lives. This took several weeks, and now the station has access to two power supply lines again," said Director General Grossi.
Repair of the damaged Ferrosplavna-1 line began on Saturday morning, approximately three kilometers from the perimeter of the NPP after the area was cleared of mines.
Technicians successfully repaired the damaged cable between two pylons, while the IAEA team monitored their work. The line, which had been disconnected since May 7, 2025, was finally reconnected to the station that evening.
For the first time since May 2025, the Zaporizhzhia NPP has again secured a backup source of external power supply.
