Ministry of Digital Transformation Denies Fake Data Leak from Diia
The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine has denied claims regarding a supposed data leak from the Diia app: «All circulated files are fabrications and do not relate to the Diia system, nor are they the result of hacking or data leakage».
This was reported on the official page of the Ministry on Facebook.
«Following the information about a possible leak, our team conducted a thorough investigation and found that all circulated files are forgeries, created using old data that had been altered and falsified to appear new», - noted Vitalii Balashov, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for Cybersecurity.
According to him, the published files are a mix of previously known «leaks» from commercial sources that had been edited and supplemented with fake records.
«This is a typical practice in the black market: old leaks are 'refreshed' with counterfeit data to mislead people into thinking it’s a new massive leak. We view the distribution of forged files as a coordinated attack on Diia and an effort to undermine trust in government services», Balashov added.
The Ministry also emphasized that the Diia app does not store personal data - the system operates on a data-in-transit principle: information is pulled from state registries at the moment of request and is not accumulated in the app or on the portal.
«This is confirmed by the fact that the Diia code was published in March 2024. It is publicly available, and anyone can verify that there are no hidden citizen databases», the Deputy Minister stressed.
Earlier, there were reports of an archive containing personal information of over 20 million Ukrainian citizens being found in the public domain.
According to the Ministry, information about the leak of personal data during the testing of the e-Notary system is false - the data of Ukrainians is securely protected.
