Honoring Ukraine's Intelligence Officers in Kyiv
A new memorial dedicated to Ukraine's military intelligence has been unveiled on the Alley of Defenders near the Arch of Freedom in Kyiv. This sign, featuring an owl — the symbol of intelligence, serves as an important tribute to Ukrainian soldiers.
Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, emphasized the significance of this event. “It is vital for society to remember the heroism of Ukrainian soldiers, especially within our cultural environment. Now we have our place on this Alley, and every intelligence officer will know that the GUR sign is here,” he stated.
Yusov also highlighted that the greatest symbol of defense is the Ukrainian flag on native soil. “All components of the security and defense forces, military intelligence, and our comrades are doing everything possible for this,” he added.
Colonel Chaplain Kostyantyn Kholodov, head of the military chaplaincy of the GUR, noted that the work of an intelligence officer requires unique skills and remarkable courage. “Intelligence is a calling. One must possess a specific character, endurance, willpower, physical training, and talents that are unique to intelligence officers. In critical moments, an intelligence officer must make crucial decisions and follow orders,” he said.
This memorial is the ninth on the Alley of Defenders, which was initiated by the cultural platform “Cultural Forces” with the unveiling of the “Infantry” memorial in May 2025.
