Bridge Renovation in Vyshhorod: Progress and Future Plans
The renovation of the bridge over the canal on the R-69 Kyiv — Vyshhorod — Desna — Chernihiv road is underway in Vyshhorod. The Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, along with the Deputy Head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration, Mykola Boyko, inspected the progress of the works. Kalashnyk shared updates on Facebook.
One of the bridge's spans was completely destroyed in 2022 at the start of the full-scale invasion. A temporary ferry service was established for light vehicles to prevent detours through neighboring villages. However, according to Kalashnyk, this service cannot handle the traffic flow, leading to congestion during peak hours.
“The reconstruction of the main bridge began last year, and currently, about 50% of the work has been completed. The capital repairs are being financed under a loan agreement with the United Kingdom. The Turkish contractor Doğuş Grubu is executing the works. A major issue noted is the lack of workers on site. We have agreed with the contractor to increase their numbers to expedite the process,” Kalashnyk explained.
The head of the KOVA also stated that traffic on this bridge is expected to reopen in September 2025. Officials also inspected the bridge in the village of Lebedivka, which had been handling the main traffic load before the temporary ferry service was established.
“This bridge now requires repairs, and there are weight limits in place. To address this issue, a temporary bridge is being constructed in collaboration with the State Special Transport Service, which is scheduled to open in August. After that, the main bridge in Lebedivka will be closed for repairs, which we plan to complete in the first half of next year,” Kalashnyk clarified.
