New Bridge Over the Danube Planned in Odesa Region
A new bridge across the Danube River is planned in the Odesa region.
According to CTU reports, the bridge will be located in the village of Orlivka in the Izmail district, leading to the Romanian city of Isaccea on the opposite bank.
This project is included in the recovery and development strategy for the region for 2025-2027, published on the Odesa Regional Council's website.
The bridge will be part of the international route E87, connecting Ukraine with Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
Currently, drivers have to take a long detour through Moldova, crossing the border twice. The new bridge will reduce the distance to Isaccea by approximately 80 kilometers.
The construction of the Orlivka-Isaccea bridge over the Danube is intended to be part of a major southern transport corridor and will connect Ukraine to the European Union via Romania.
Funding for the construction is planned through international assistance - over 12.6 billion UAH over three years. In 2025, 1.26 billion will be allocated, in 2026 nearly 3.8 billion, and in 2027 more than 7.5 billion UAH.
Upcoming steps include design, environmental assessments, the actual construction of the bridge, access roads, as well as the establishment of border crossing points and connection to international highways.
The future bridge will be four lanes wide, with sidewalks on both sides and designed to withstand earthquakes up to 9 magnitude.
On the Ukrainian side, a 3 km access road will be constructed, while on the Romanian side, it will be 950 meters long.
