Security Mechanisms for Ukraine Discussed
During a meeting of the chiefs of staff of the armed forces from the "Coalition of the Willing" in Paris, security guarantees for Ukraine and their practical implementation were discussed.
This was stated by General Fabien Mandon, Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces, on social media.
He reported that in the French capital, he met with General Richard Naiton, Chief of Staff of the British Armed Forces, General Andriy Hnatov, Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and General Alexis Greenkevich, Commander of the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe.
"The security guarantees for Ukraine and the conditions for their implementation were at the core of discussions during the video conference with the chiefs of staff of the coalition's armed forces," Mandon noted.
He added that the ongoing military efforts, which have been in place for several months within the coalition and in cooperation with the United States, aim to support political steps towards achieving lasting peace in Europe.
Summit in Paris
It was previously reported that Ukraine's allies will gather in Paris on January 6 to coordinate their contributions to future security guarantees for Kyiv in the event of a ceasefire with Russia.
This meeting is part of broader efforts to form a unified position among Ukraine, Europe, and the United States, which can later be presented to the Russian side. Key topics of negotiation include the potential deployment of foreign troops on Ukrainian territory after a ceasefire is established.
Within the so-called "Coalition of the Willing," there are already countries that allow for their presence in Ukraine after hostilities cease. Earlier in January, the President of Ukraine also reported that representatives from the general staffs and defense sector were heading to Paris for a series of meetings.
Further on, at the leadership level, the refinement of security documents is planned, focusing on security guarantees and the reconstruction of Ukraine. After this, a series of meetings in the U.S. involving a wide range of states is scheduled.
