New Commitments from Partners for Ukraine's Defense Support

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, shared significant news regarding international support for the country's defense capabilities.
Following the 32nd meeting of the Contact Group in the «Ramstein» format, he reported that in 2025, allies plan to invest approximately $5 billion in domestic defense production and another $5 billion for the purchase of American weapons. These figures are record-breaking, and we hope to maintain this trend in 2026. Shmyhal emphasized that important long-term commitments from partners regarding support for Ukraine were also received during the meeting.
In particular, Germany plans to allocate €11.5 billion for Ukraine's defense in 2026, focusing on air defense, drones, and artillery systems, with new Patriot and IRIS-T systems already delivered.
The United Kingdom announced assistance of £600 million to strengthen Ukraine's air defense, funded by frozen Russian assets and other sources.
Canada also announced an additional CAD 30 million for drones and other military needs.
The Netherlands is set to provide €700 million for drones, including €400 million for domestic products.
Montenegro has prepared a contribution to the fund supporting Ukraine, while Denmark is preparing a new assistance package focusing on aviation capabilities.
Estonia will continue its support at no less than 0.25% of GDP, and Latvia has committed to similar support levels.
Lithuania will allocate over €220 million for military assistance, while Luxembourg will contribute €100 million in 2026.
Countries such as New Zealand and Norway are also preparing substantial contributions to support Ukraine.
Shmyhal thanked all partners for their support, which is crucial for the security of Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
In conclusion, he noted that Ukraine's defense needs in 2026 will reach $120 billion and urged allies to allocate at least 0.25% of GDP for these purposes.
