Detention of Suspects in Kyiv Terror Attack
In Kyiv, Ukraine, law enforcement agencies including the police and the Security Service of Ukraine have successfully detained three young men suspected of orchestrating a terrorist act in the Darnytsia district. According to the Kyiv police communication department, the suspects are aged 23, 25, and 27 and are from different regions, having come to the capital in search of work.
The police, supported by the KORD special unit, apprehended the suspects in a rented apartment where evidence of their criminal activity was found.
Kyiv police chief Dmytro Shumeyko stated that one of the suspects received instructions via a messenger app from a so-called curator in Russia to carry out an attack in exchange for money.
The criminals manufactured homemade explosive devices disguised in trash along the patrol route, and also placed mobile phones nearby that streamed real-time video. When a National Guard patrol approached the trap, an explosion occurred, resulting in the death of one of the perpetrators and injuries to another. Additionally, a construction site guard nearby was harmed. At the time when police and medical personnel arrived at the scene, a second explosion occurred, injuring two police officers who are currently in the hospital,” Shumeyko noted.
The Security Service of Ukraine is conducting a pre-trial investigation under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine concerning the terrorist act that resulted in a fatality. The penalty for this article includes life imprisonment. The Kyiv city prosecutor's office is overseeing the legal process.
On December 11, two explosions occurred in the Darnytsia district of Kyiv, resulting in the death of one National Guardsman and injuries to four others.
