Uncovering the Scheme of Selling Military Ships in Ukraine
The Kyiv police have uncovered an organized scheme for selling decommissioned military ships of the Ukrainian Navy, with suspicions raised against officials from the Ministry of Defense and representatives of a state enterprise. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the perpetrators sold decommissioned vessels as scrap metal at a reduced price, causing losses to the state exceeding 900,000 hryvnias.
It was revealed that a Ministry of Defense official, together with two representatives from the state enterprise "Ukrspetstorh," organized the illegal sale of six ships that were due for disposal due to unsatisfactory technical condition.
The main suspect, while serving as the head of the military property disposal department, abused his official position to circumvent established disposal procedures.
The sellers deliberately undervalued the ships and created a formal tender in which a pre-selected private company emerged as the winner.
The police also reported that the metal price was intentionally reduced several times compared to the market value, allowing the buyer to gain significant economic benefits while causing losses to the state.
As a result, under the procedural guidance of the military prosecutor's office, all three participants in the scheme have been charged with abuse of power, leading to severe consequences.
The former head of the Department of State Procurement and Supply of Material Resources is suspected of negligence during the procurement of water for defense needs under martial law.
