Law enforcement officials have arrested two men who were illegally selling drugs via their Telegram channel, shipping orders across Ukraine. They could face up to 12 years in prison for their crimes.
Investigators discovered that the young men, aged 26 and 28, had set up a Telegram channel to sell kratom, disguising it as safe herbal supplements. Orders were mailed to various regions.
Operatives documented their activities while they were sending parcels containing the 'goods'. The drug dealers had kratom ready for sale, and during authorized searches, more prepared packages of the narcotic substance Mitragyna speciosa and packaging materials were found.
Both were detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and were informed of their suspicion for illegal acquisition and storage of psychotropic substances. The court imposed a preventive measure of detention, which could result in 12 years of imprisonment.
