Greening Kyiv: New Forest Plantations in 2025
In 2025, the forestry enterprises of Kyiv planted more than 234,000 seedlings, establishing 9.1 hectares of new forest areas. The majority consists of coniferous species—over 179,000.
According to the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation of the Kyiv City State Administration, nearly 80,000 seedlings were planted in the autumn alone, with about 52,000 being coniferous. The main species in this initiative are oak and Scots pine, which create resilient and long-lasting forest masses in the capital. In just a few years, the planted seedlings will grow into young trees, forming the foundation of a rejuvenated forest.
During the year, the following were planted:
- KP “Svyatoshyn Forest Enterprise” — 149.4 thousand seedlings
- KP “Darnytsia Forest Enterprise” — 41.4 thousand seedlings
- KP “Koncha-Zaspa” — 43.4 thousand seedlings
“We continue our efforts to restore forest plantations; in the context of full-scale war, when the environment of Ukraine suffers significant losses, our mission is to protect and enhance Kyiv's green resources. The forestry enterprises utilize seedlings grown in local nurseries, which are better suited to the urban climate. This is meticulous work, and the results will be visible in a few years when these trees become part of the capital's green spaces,” noted Acting Director of the Department Pavlo Ivanov.
It should be reminded that the total area of land under the jurisdiction of the capital's forestry enterprises in the city is nearly 32,000 hectares.
