Arrest of Robber in Kyiv
A robber was apprehended in the capital after threatening a girl with murder. The assailant forced her to hand over money under the threat of a weapon. The police responded swiftly and found the attacker within half an hour. He could spend the next fifteen years behind bars.
The police received a report from a 23-year-old woman about an attack in the Darnytsia district. Officers quickly arrived at the scene.
It was discovered that the assailant had been following the victim during her morning walk to work. In a deserted area, he suddenly grabbed her by the neck and held a gun to her back. Threatening violence, he forced the girl to give him her money.
Thanks to the efforts of criminal analysts, the police arrested the robber in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine within half an hour. The assailant turned out to be a 26-year-old man from the Chernihiv region, who had recently moved to Kyiv in search of work. Part of the stolen money and the weapon used - a toy gun - were seized.
Investigators charged the suspect under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - robbery committed in a state of martial law. The court decided to keep him in custody during the investigation. The sanctions for the article provide for up to fifteen years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
