Arrest Made in Child Sexual Assault Case
The perpetrator connected with the minor via social media and, after two weeks of messaging, invited her to meet, where he committed a heinous crime. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
The police in Kyiv received a report from a woman who claimed that an unknown man had sexually assaulted her underage daughter.
Within a day, police operatives tracked down the offender — a 22-year-old resident of Kyiv originally from Sumy. He was arrested in accordance with legal procedures.
Investigators found that the suspect had met an 11-year-old schoolgirl on social media and had been messaging her for two weeks. He carefully chose topics to earn her trust, then invited her to a meeting in an abandoned building, where he committed the sexual crime.
In an attempt to escape responsibility, the perpetrator deleted the messaging history from the child's phone as well as his contact.
Investigators from the Shevchenkivskyi police department, under the supervision of the Shevchenkivskyi district prosecutor's office, have charged him under part 4 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — rape of a person under the age of fourteen. A court has determined that the suspect will remain in custody without bail, facing up to 15 years in prison.
