A legal case is set to proceed in Kyiv against a man accused of stabbing a passerby at the Contract Square. Investigators have submitted an indictment against a 33-year-old resident from Mykolaiv Oblast, who attacked a 31-year-old pedestrian in the heart of Podil. He could face up to eight years in prison.
The incident occurred during the summer of this year. Authorities discovered that the suspect had traveled to Kyiv, stayed in a hostel, and had repeatedly instigated conflicts with locals while exploring the city. Following another altercation, he inflicted a penetrating stab wound on the abdomen of a 31-year-old Kyiv resident.
Police officers, including district officers and criminal analysis operatives, were able to identify and apprehend the assailant under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, seizing the knife used in the attack.
The suspect has been charged under part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for causing intentional grievous bodily harm. Investigators have compiled the evidence and forwarded the indictment to the court. The perpetrator faces imprisonment of up to eight years.
