Illegal Exit: Scheme Exposed for Smuggling Men Abroad
The organizer promised to transport the «client» to Romania by car, bypassing checkpoints. Other individuals involved in the criminal scheme are being identified.
Investigators from the Kyiv police, in cooperation with the SBU and under the supervision of the city prosecutor's office, uncovered the illegal actions of a 35-year-old local resident who organized the illegal exit of conscripted men to neighboring countries.
The wrongdoer found «clients» among his acquaintances and promised to provide them with illegal border crossing for a fee of $20,000. The «client» was required to reach the Lviv region independently, where another accomplice would meet him and drive him to the border with Romania outside of official checkpoints.
During a search of the organizer's residence, police discovered and seized part of the funds – $15,000, which he received from the client for the «service». Law enforcement arrested the offender in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The man has been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – organizing the illegal transportation of persons across the state border, committed by a group of individuals for mercenary motives. The sanction of the article provides for up to nine years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Currently, further measures are being taken to identify all individuals involved in the criminal scheme for their prosecution.
