Ukrainian Delegation Meeting in Abu Dhabi
Before the negotiations in the UAE capital, President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with members of the Ukrainian team.
He reported this during an online press conference on January 23.
"Good day, esteemed journalists. I have just concluded consultations with our negotiation group. Prior to the discussions, we reviewed important issues and spoke with the head of the delegation, Rustem Umerov. All team members were present, and we reached a shared understanding of our strategy. We defined discussion topics and desired outcomes. We also discussed possible meeting formats that may change depending on the dialogue, as this is the first such meeting in a long time" - stated Zelensky.
He also added that he would remain in contact with the team, and they would periodically share updates on the negotiation progress.
Background: President Volodymyr Zelensky approved the delegation’s composition for peace talks with the US and Russia. The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, leads it. Earlier, Zelensky stated that trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia are scheduled for Friday and Saturday in the UAE. On January 23, the spokesperson for the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, noted that the Kremlin insists on the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas, as this is a crucial condition for ending the war.
