Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss future actions regarding security. The meeting took place in advance of an important coalition gathering.
“We talked about how to improve our air defense system and coordinated further steps before the coalition meeting in London,” Zelensky noted.
The President also informed Merz about the impacts of Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and the necessary measures to restore energy supplies for cities and communities.
“We expect Germany to take a leading role in supporting our energy sector – both in equipment and financing,” he emphasized.
Zelensky specifically focused on potential solutions that could further strengthen Ukraine's air defense capabilities.
The President expressed gratitude to Germany for its significant contribution to protecting Ukrainian lives and its willingness to continue assisting.
“We also discussed the mechanism for utilizing frozen Russian assets to protect Ukraine – it's crucial that Germany supports this initiative,” he added.
