Emergency G7+ Meeting to Support Ukraine's Energy Sector
At the initiative of the Ministry of Energy, alongside G7+ coordinators — the Canadian Ministry of Energy and the European Commission, an emergency meeting of the Group to support Ukraine's energy sector was convened in response to the massive nighttime strikes from Russia. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy.
Over 100 representatives from various countries and international organizations, including the USA, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the European Commission, UNDP, EIB, EBRD, Energy Community Secretariat, and other partners participated in the meeting. The Ukrainian side provided detailed information about the consequences of the attacks, particularly those targeting oil and gas facilities.
Partners were also informed about the immediate needs for the rapid recovery of damaged facilities, focusing on physical and air defense systems, the need for additional gas supplies, and energy equipment for restoration and repairs.
Throughout more than three and a half years of Russia's full-scale military aggression, international partners have provided significant support to Ukraine's energy sector. Thanks to the received equipment and financial assistance, Ukraine successfully navigated the previous three wartime winters and conducted necessary repairs promptly.
As Russian attacks intensify, there is an increasing need to mobilize international support using tools that have already proven effective and can provide assistance in the shortest time possible.
G7+ representatives assured Ukraine of their continued support and agreed to hold an additional meeting soon to coordinate further joint actions.
It is worth noting that today, October 4, the city of Shostka was left without electricity due to enemy strikes, and 8 people were hospitalized.
