New Security Initiatives for Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that 26 countries have expressed their willingness to send troops or provide various resources to support Ukraine.
Macron made this announcement during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris.
"We have made significant progress, our military leaders are working closely together, and today I can confidently say – we are ready. We have a political proposal, a military proposal, and support from 35 leaders willing to provide security guarantees to Ukraine," said Macron.
According to him, the coalition's approach to security guarantees consists of two key elements.
Firstly, there are no restrictions on the format of the Ukrainian army and its capabilities. Coalition participants aim to provide Ukraine with the resources needed to rebuild its military to effectively deter any potential aggression.
"The second element involves the security guarantee forces. Today, 26 countries have formally committed (with others expressing interest) to send either contingents to Ukraine or to contribute certain resources to support this coalition in ensuring security at sea or in the air," Macron stated.
He emphasized that the goal of the security forces is not to wage war against Russia, but to ensure peace and send a strategic signal to prevent the resumption of hostilities.
"We are currently determining where they will be positioned," Macron added.
Background: The "Coalition of the Resolute" meeting concluded in Paris, where President Zelensky left the Elysee Palace. Representatives from over 30 countries in Europe and other regions participated in the session. Six EU leaders were present in person, while others joined via video link. Before the meeting, Macron stated that allies had completed work on security guarantees for Ukraine and were now ready for political approval.
