Erdogan and Zelensky Discuss Security and Peace in Phone Call
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a significant phone conversation, discussing bilateral relations, peace initiatives between Ukraine and Russia, as well as essential regional and global matters.
This was reported by the head of the Ukrainian state on Telegram.
«We talked extensively about security guarantees. Our national security advisors are currently working on every specific component, and next week we will have everything documented. President Erdogan mentioned that he is involving his Minister of Defense to understand how Turkey can assist in ensuring security, especially in the Black Sea», - noted Zelensky.
He further stated that he exchanged views with the Turkish leader regarding the current situation and discussed forthcoming diplomatic steps.
«Ukraine is ready to engage in a leaders' format, as it is the only effective means. Unfortunately, it is Russia that is evading this and continuing the war», - emphasized the President of Ukraine.
He reminded that last night Russian forces again struck Ukraine, launching over 30 missiles and around 600 drones. The attacks resulted in the death of 17 individuals, including four children. Many people are in critical condition, and doctors are fighting for their lives.
«There were attacks on a Turkish company, the Azerbaijani Embassy, the EU Representation, the British Council, and residential areas. This is Putin's response to all attempts by Ukraine, the USA, and our European partners to stop the killings. That is why pressure is needed – through sanctions, tariffs, and political influence. We count on strong actions», - remarked Zelensky.
The Turkish president's communication directorate also confirmed the conversation with the President of Ukraine on social media X.
«President Erdogan stated that they are closely monitoring contacts in Alaska and Washington, Turkey continues to strive for lasting peace, and the Republic of Turkey will continue to contribute to Ukraine's security after peace is established», - the message reads.
The Turkish leader pointed out that «a fair resolution of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia is possible».
He added that «it is necessary to continue and intensify negotiations between the two sides» and emphasized Turkey's readiness «to do everything possible to facilitate high-level contacts that will pave the way for peace».
