Norwegian Defense Minister's Visit to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Onshuus Sandvik, marking his first visit to Ukraine since his appointment in February.
The President expressed gratitude to the Norwegian government for significant military support, increased to $7 billion this year. Zelensky emphasized Ukraine's hope for such support to continue into next year.
Key discussions centered around the effective use of these funds to assist Ukrainians in the fight against Russian aggression.
“We also spoke with the Prime Minister about enhancing our domestic production capabilities for long-range strike systems. I’m pleased to note that he supported this idea and suggested further discussions with you,” the President stated.
Zelensky and Sandvik discussed investments in Ukrainian arms production, particularly drones and long-range missiles, as well as scaling up joint defense production.
Other important issues included strengthening the air defense system and modernizing combat aviation. The President thanked Norway for providing F-16 fighters. He also highlighted the importance of supplying NASAMS systems and missiles to protect civilian infrastructure from Russian terror.
Additionally, Zelensky expressed gratitude to Norway for its winter energy support and funding for the purchase of imported gas.
The Norwegian Defense Minister assured continued support for Ukraine and emphasized the importance of developing defense capabilities for both nations.
