Zelensky Discusses Peace with the Pope

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky engaged in his first dialogue with Pope Leo XIV, focusing on peace talks and negotiations with Russia.

Direct quote from Zelensky: "Today, we had the honor of speaking with the Pope. This was our first conversation, but it was very open and constructive. I expressed gratitude for the support of our nation and people. His Holiness emphasized the importance of achieving a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine and the return of our citizens from captivity."

Additional Information: The conversation also touched upon the thousands of Ukrainian children deported by Russia. Ukraine hopes for the Vatican's assistance in bringing them home.

"I informed about the agreement with our partners to initiate a complete and unconditional ceasefire for at least a month. We confirmed our readiness for further negotiations in any format. Ukraine is eager to end this war, and we are doing everything possible to achieve that. We await actions from Russia," the president stated.

Zelensky also invited the Pope to visit Ukraine, noting that such a visit would bring hope to all believers and Ukrainians.

Moreover, the parties agreed to maintain contact and plan a personal meeting in the near future.
