The European Commissioner for Defense, Andrius Kubilius, emphasized that denying Ukraine NATO membership will only facilitate Russia's plans for aggressive actions.
He expressed this view on platform X, as reported by "European Truth".
Kubilius pointed out that Russia does not want Ukraine to join NATO not because it fears an attack from the Alliance.
"Moscow fears that NATO will protect Ukraine from further aggression by Russia. A 'No NATO' for Ukraine makes it easier for Russia to plan its next aggression," he stressed.
Recently, former U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his claims that Ukraine supposedly provoked the war by seeking NATO membership.
Earlier, reports indicated that the Trump administration provided Ukraine with a one-page document, considered a "final proposal" for a peace settlement. Among other things, the U.S. was willing to recognize Russia's control over Ukrainian Crimea and ease sanctions against Moscow.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on April 24 that the U.S. offered its strategy regarding Ukrainian territories during negotiations in London, but according to him, after the U.S. proposal, "another paper" emerged.
