The leaders of Canada's major political parties, Liberal Party's Mark Carney and Conservative Party's Pierre Poilievre, engaged in a debate about how their parties would support Ukraine in the event of winning the snap elections.
According to their debate insights, Poilievre emphasized the necessity of continuing support for Ukraine, asserting that Canada should act independently of the United States.
He stated that Canada must provide Ukraine with intelligence, weapons, and other forms of assistance while also working to reduce Putin's influence on the European energy market.
Poilievre further accused the Liberals of blocking the export of Canadian gas, which he believes hampers Ukraine's efforts.
On the other hand, Carney highlighted that Canada remains a steadfast ally of Ukraine, actively welcoming Ukrainians seeking refuge in Canada.
He stressed the importance of the international coalition supporting Ukraine and criticized Poilievre for his vote against the free trade agreement with Ukraine.
The snap parliamentary elections in Canada are scheduled for April 28, and the issue of relations with the United States will be pivotal in the campaign.
