“I am pleased to be here and announce that our new government has decided to continue our humanitarian support,” he said.
“Our Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot is here, as well as our Minister of Defense, who proudly announces a new decision regarding the 1 billion euro aid package for 2025, with the ambition of providing at least 1 billion euros in bilateral military aid during my term. Our ministry has several initiatives planned for the near future,” the Prime Minister added.
De Wever noted the significant interest in establishing Belgian defense production in Ukraine, also announcing the signing of 4 relevant contracts today.
“We must help Ukraine build its own defense capabilities, as well as rearm Europe against new aggression from Russia,” he emphasized.
“I believe we should collaborate to see how our private sector can be interested in potentially investing in Ukraine and developing capabilities for our defense industry,” the Prime Minister stressed.
On April 8, a delegation from Belgium arrived in Kyiv, led by Prime Minister Bart De Wever.
The delegation also included Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot and Defense Minister Theo Francken.
Since the beginning of the large-scale war, Belgium has provided Ukraine with aid totaling over 2.2 billion euros, making it one of the top 20 donors in the world in terms of aid per capita.
