Norway to Seek Increased Aid for Ukraine
The Norwegian government will soon initiate discussions in parliament regarding an increase in financial assistance for Ukraine.
Source: Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre mentioned this in an interview with NRK, as reported by "European Truth".
Details: At the end of last year, the Norwegian parliament approved a budget of 35 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately $3.12 billion) for military and civilian support to Ukraine in 2025.
"I can confirm today that we will return to parliament shortly with a proposal to increase our support", – said Støre in the interview.
The Prime Minister of Norway is heading to London, where he will meet with Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders at a summit organized by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Støre emphasized that discussions in London will also cover relations with the new U.S. administration.
They will discuss how to approach the new U.S. administration.
"Yesterday I heard that he (Volodymyr Zelensky) is still emphasizing the importance of relations with the United States and wants to find a way forward", – remarked the Norwegian Prime Minister.
He stated that it is "absolutely essential" for the United States to work alongside Europe to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine.
In response to a question about trusting the U.S. after the scandal in the White House, Støre noted that one should not jump to conclusions.
"We had five or six weeks with Trump in office. I think we still need to work on understanding the implications of their style and the words they use", – shared the Norwegian Prime Minister.
According to media reports, President Zelensky has already arrived in Britain for a summit with European leaders that will take place on Sunday.
