USAID Funding Cuts Impacting GovTech Projects in Ukraine
The cessation of funding from USAID has left nearly a third of all GovTech projects in Ukraine without financial support.
This is reported by DOU, referencing expert Roman Lansky's insights.
"USAID has funded approximately a third of all GovTech initiatives, possibly even more. Consequently, all new projects are on hold, with funds only being allocated to those completed by January 24. Moving forward, all contracts, including those with individual entrepreneurs, are likely to be paused for three months. However, this is preliminary information and could change," Lansky stated.
According to Kitsoft, a company that develops and implements digital technologies for government agencies, this situation will lead to a slowdown in the country's digital transformation. Companies may need to pivot their strategies.
"We had planned a significant number of projects, including those with the Ministry of Digital Transformation. Projects funded by USAID account for up to 30%; they are important, but not the only ones. Thus, our overall plans remain unchanged, though the pace of growth is likely to slow down," commented Kitsoft's CEO Oleksandr Yefremov.
Reminder:
On January 25, 2025, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued an order suspending funding for most foreign aid programs, including support for Ukraine.
On January 16, 2025, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ukraine received an order to halt all projects following a directive from the U.S. State Department to suspend aid programs to other countries for 90 days for auditing purposes.
