Massive Power Outage in Kyiv After January 9 Attack

Following a massive attack on the night of January 9, more than 500,000 consumers in Kyiv and the surrounding region are left without electricity; the city of Slavutych has been completely de-energized again. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk during a briefing.
"As a result of the shelling, significant damage was inflicted on electricity transmission facilities – substations and overhead lines, as well as generation facilities. Currently, over 500,000 consumers are without power in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Due to network damage on the left bank of Kyiv and parts of the Kyiv region, distribution system operators have implemented emergency power shutdowns. On the right bank of Kyiv, scheduled hourly outages are in effect," Kolisnyk stated.
He noted that the city of Slavutych is again without electricity, which administratively belongs to the Kyiv region.
Additionally, as of this morning, approximately 3,000 subscribers in the Chernihiv region remain without power.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, 34,000 consumers are without electricity. Energy workers have restored power to over 1 million subscribers who were cut off due to Russian shelling on January 7-8.
As reported, on the night of January 9, Russian forces launched a combined strike on Ukraine using strike drones, as well as sea and ground-launched missiles. Overall, the radio-technical troops of the Air Forces identified and escorted 278 air attack vehicles – 36 missiles and 242 UAVs of various types.
Air defense forces destroyed 226 Russian drones, eight Iskander-M ballistic missiles / S-400 and 10 Kalibr cruise missiles.
In Kyiv, there are reports of four fatalities and 25 injuries due to the Russian attack. 16 injured individuals have been hospitalized.
In the Kyiv region, five people were injured, and buildings were damaged as a result of the combined attack by Russian troops.
