Update on Air Defense Operations Against Enemy Attacks
The air defense forces have successfully neutralized 226 drones, eight "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles, and 10 "Kalibr" cruise missiles. This was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force on Telegram.
Since 19:30 on January 8, Russian forces launched a combined strike on critical infrastructure in Ukraine, utilizing both drones and various types of missiles.
The primary target of the attack was the Kyiv region.
Overall, radio-technical troops of the Air Force detected and tracked 278 air attack means – 36 missiles and 242 UAVs of various types:
- 242 attack drones of the Shahed type, "Gerbera" (other types of UAVs) from the directions of Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsk-Akhtarsk (RF), Chaus, Hvardijske (temporarily occupied Crimea) and temporarily occupied Donetsk. About 150 of them are Shahed drones;
- 13 ballistic missiles "Iskander-M" / S-400 (launch areas in Bryansk region);
- 22 cruise missiles "Kalibr" (from the Black Sea);
- one medium-range ballistic missile (from the Kapustin Yar test site, Astrakhan region).
The air assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
As of 9:00 AM on January 9, air defense forces shot down or suppressed 244 aerial targets:
- 226 drones;
- eight "Iskander-M" / S-400 ballistic missiles;
- 10 "Kalibr" cruise missiles.
There were hits recorded from 18 missiles and 16 attack drones at 19 locations.
