Massive Attack: Russia Launches Drone Strike on Ukraine
During the night and morning, the Russian Federation executed a new wave of aggression against Ukraine, releasing more than 650 drones, many of which are of the Shahed type, along with over thirty rockets. At least 13 Ukrainian regions were hit. This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky on his Facebook page.
«A massive assault by Russia has been ongoing since the night, primarily targeting our energy facilities and civilian infrastructure. More than 650 drones have been recorded, with a significant number being «Shaheds». Additionally, over thirty rockets have been launched», - noted Zelensky.
At this time, an air raid alert remains in effect across much of Ukraine. All necessary services are actively engaged in addressing the aftermath of the strikes.
«Unfortunately, there are casualties. In the Kyiv region, a woman was killed by a Russian drone strike. We also have reports of a victim in Khmelnytskyi region. A four-year-old child lost their life in Zhytomyr region due to a drone hitting a residential building. My condolences to the families and loved ones», - stated Zelensky.
«A significant number of drones and rockets have been intercepted. Detailed reports from the Air Forces will follow later as all data is compiled. However, there have been hits. Repair crews and energy workers are already working to restore normalcy for people, our cities, and communities», - he emphasized.
According to him, this attack clearly signals Russia's priorities.
«The strike occurred just before Christmas, when people want to be with their families at home, safe. This strike happened right in the middle of negotiations aimed at ending this war. Putin cannot accept that the killing must stop. This suggests that the world is not putting enough pressure on Russia», - Zelensky stressed.
He called on the world to react.
«We must push Russia towards peace and guaranteed security. We must not forget that every day - on both weekdays and holidays - Ukraine is protecting people's lives. Air defense for Ukraine, funding for the procurement of weapons, supplying energy equipment - these processes do not pause for the weekend. We must be committed to protecting lives to finally achieve peace. Thank you to everyone who helps Ukraine! Thank you to every leader, every politician who will not remain silent today and condemns Russia for its actions», - he concluded.
Russia is heavily attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leading to emergency power outages in several regions.
