Challenges in Power Supply to ZNPP: Current Updates
Russian forces have once again disrupted the power supply systems of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), located in the temporarily occupied Energodar. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on this situation, noting that there has been a significant increase in inquiries from international leaders, including Grossi and Macron.
"Many are asking what is happening at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, what risks exist, and whether there is a threat of an explosion? This is an unprecedented situation where the plant has been without power for so long, relying solely on backup generators," he emphasized during a press conference.
Zelensky also added that the power lines were damaged on both sides: from both the Ukrainian-controlled territory and the occupied area. "Problems arose during the capture of the plant when Russian forces severed these lines," he stated.
The president highlighted that Ukraine has repeatedly tried to restore power from the controlled territory, but repair crews are constantly shelled by Russian troops, resulting in casualties.
It is worth noting that on September 23 at 16:56, the only power line supplying the ZNPP was disconnected. This marks the tenth blackout since the plant's occupation.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Russia is seeking support from the IAEA in its efforts to take control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).
The IAEA has confirmed the danger of the situation at the ZNPP, which has been without its main power source for ten days due to the actions of the occupiers.
Russia disconnected the ZNPP from the Ukrainian power grid under the pretext of "testing" and plans to reconnect it to its own energy system.
