Night Attacks on Infrastructure: Impact on Poltava and Sumy Regions
In the recent wave of enemy attacks that occurred overnight, the Poltava and Sumy regions experienced substantial damage to their energy and railway infrastructure. This was reported by the Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Oleksiy Kuleba, on his Facebook page.
He noted that in Poltava, the locomotive depot, power supply distances, and traction substations were hit. Administrative buildings and warehouses were damaged, along with rolling stock. Fires that broke out were extinguished by rescue services.
"Fortunately, there are no casualties," emphasized Kuleba.
Due to the attacks, trains on the Kharkiv–Lviv, Lviv–Kharkiv, and Kramatorsk–Lviv routes experienced temporary delays, but their movement has been restored.
Kuleba also added that as a result of the strikes, over a thousand households in Poltava and surrounding areas were left without electricity.
In Sumy, a similar situation was observed: damages to residential buildings and partial power outages were recorded.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that response teams are working on-site to address the aftermath. Specialists are inspecting territories, restoring power supply, and assisting residents.
Railway movement has been stabilized, and critical infrastructure is gradually returning to operation, he added.
"The enemy's goal is clear – Russia is trying to weaponize cold and darkness. They aim to disrupt the heating season and paralyze the work of Ukrzaliznytsia, which remains a critical artery of the country," Kuleba stressed.
