Increase in Casualties from Attack on Humanitarian Mission
The number of injured from the Russian missile strike on the demining humanitarian mission in Chernihiv region has increased to eight.
This was reported by the Danish Refugee Council in their statement on Facebook, as per Ukrinform.
“As a result of the attack, two of our colleagues lost their lives, and eight others sustained injuries,” the statement reads.
The statement emphasizes that the highest priority for the mission is to provide urgent medical assistance to the injured and support to the families of the deceased.
It is noted that at the time of the incident, DRC teams were engaged solely in civilian humanitarian activities, working on demining the area to restore safe access to essential infrastructure, agricultural land, and homes.
“This attack on a civilian humanitarian operation is a serious violation of international humanitarian law. Humanitarian workers and the people they assist should never become targets while performing their vital duties. We urge all parties to respect and adhere to international law and ensure the safety and protection of humanitarian workers and their activities at all times. The DRC remains committed to its mission of protecting those affected by war and forced displacement in Ukraine,” the statement adds.
On September 4, Russian troops deliberately struck the humanitarian demining mission of the “Danish Refugee Council” operating in the Kyseliv community near Chernihiv. Earlier reports indicated two fatalities and five injuries.
The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council refuted the fake news spread by the Russian Ministry of Defense claiming that the “Iskander” strike had destroyed Ukrainian military equipment and units preparing to launch strike drones in Chernihiv region.
