Identification Process of Fallen Ukrainian Defenders

The complete identification of around 6,000 bodies of fallen Ukrainian defenders handed over by the Russian side could take as long as 14 months.

This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Igor Klymenko, during a national telethon.

Duration of the identification of 6000 defenders

The minister noted that the Russian side has currently transferred 6060 bodies.

“I can only provide an approximate assessment of the situation, as the analysis is ongoing – it is unclear what condition the remains are in and how many bodies are actually in the packages provided to us. However, according to preliminary assessments, identifying these approximately 6,000 bodies will require at least 13-14 months”, – said Igor Klymenko.

He emphasized that this timeline is the minimum necessary for complete identification of all repatriated bodies.

According to him, to expedite this critical task, all relevant services – forensic examination, expert units, and investigators – are working in three shifts.
