Return of the Deceased: A New Phase of Repatriation in Ukraine
Ukraine has concluded a new phase of returning deceased individuals - a new repatriation effort
Today marked the continuation of efforts to repatriate remains, as agreed during negotiations in Istanbul. Another 1200 bodies have been returned to Ukraine, claimed by the Russian side to belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel.
In the near future, investigative authorities in collaboration with experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs will carry out all necessary examinations and identification of the repatriated bodies.
This repatriation phase was made possible through the joint efforts of the Coordinating Headquarters, the Joint Center under the SBU, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, and other security sector institutions of Ukraine.
We express our gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for their assistance.
Special thanks go to the personnel of the Central Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Joint Support Center, who are responsible for transporting the repatriated individuals to designated specialized institutions and organizing the transfer of the deceased to law enforcement representatives.
