First Stage of Prisoner Exchange Concluded
The first stage of the prisoner exchange under the agreements reached in Istanbul has been successfully completed today.
The first group of released servicemen, primarily under the age of 25, is returning home.
This achievement results from the diligent efforts of the President of Ukraine, the negotiation team, and the Coordination Headquarters for the Handling of Prisoners of War.
The released individuals include representatives from various military branches, such as the Naval Forces, Ground Forces, and others, all holding the ranks of private or sergeant.
Among those freed are defenders of Mariupol, who spent over three years in captivity.
This exchange marks the beginning of a larger operation that will continue in accordance with the agreements made.
The exchange involves specific categories of prisoners, including those under 25, severely wounded, and critically ill captives.
Additionally, efforts are ongoing to repatriate the bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers who defended their homeland.
The returned defenders will be provided with all necessary assistance, including the restoration of documents and monetary compensation for the time spent in captivity. They will also undergo medical rehabilitation.
The 66th prisoner exchange is ongoing. Final figures will be released after the exchange process is completed for security reasons.
Ukraine is consistently working on implementing the exchange formula of "all for all" across all categories.
