Solidarity with Soldiers: Event at St. Sophia Square
We urge all residents of Kyiv to participate in our event so that the voices of families and concerned citizens can be heard louder.
On Sunday, June 8, an event will be held at St. Sophia Square in Kyiv to show solidarity with Ukrainian soldiers who have fallen into Russian captivity. The event will start at 5:00 PM and will be part of the nationwide initiative "Speak Up! Captivity Kills," which takes place weekly in various cities across Ukraine.
The organizers emphasize: silence kills. Society has no right to forget those who fight for their lives in captivity every day, as well as those whose fate remains unknown.
Participants of the event are calling on the Ukrainian government and the international community to take more active measures for the release of prisoners of war, to investigate cases of disappearance, and to exert pressure on Russia for violations of international humanitarian law.
According to human rights defenders, the conditions in which Ukrainian prisoners are held remain horrific: people are tortured, humiliated, and medical assistance is denied. Some do not survive the torment and die.
The goal of the event is not only to support the families of the captives but also to remind society that the fight for every defender continues.
In the press center "Kyiv Inform," "Evening Kyiv" spoke with Olga Adrianova, co-founder of the Association of Families of Defenders of "Azovstal." She shared how a strong community of families of the captives has formed around the common grief — people who support each other and do not allow society to turn away from this painful issue.
