Legal Updates: New Legislative Initiatives from the President
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has introduced new legislative initiatives to the Parliament concerning the extension of martial law and mobilization in the country for an additional 90 days. If approved by the parliament, these measures will remain in effect until August 6, 2025.
The related bills, numbered 13172 and 13173, have been registered on the official website of the Parliament.
As of the morning of April 15, both documents have been forwarded to the relevant Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence for further processing. In the texts of the bills, the President proposes to confirm the respective presidential decrees for the extension of martial law and mobilization for a period of 90 days.
According to the text of the bill regarding the extension of general mobilization (presumably bill No. 13173), this law is expected to come into force on May 9, 2025, after its announcement through media channels.
The bill on the extension of martial law (presumably bill No. 13172) is anticipated to take effect “from the day of its publication” following its adoption by the Parliament and signing by the President.
